126 Books, Tapes, DVD’s and Websites to Explore the Enneagram

Hey everybody. It’s been a while since I’ve added a post because spring is just too nice a time of year to be inside typing.

But, I’ve decided to break out the keyboard to share a really great post by Ken Ireland. Ken just put together a massive Enneagram Bibliography to help people explore the Enneagram in more depth.

Ken says:

Collecting books is a passion that is not as widespread as, for example, sex, but some of us are burdened with massive libraries. And I am certain that certain points on the Enneagram tend to harbor those with this proclivity. 9, 5 and 7 seem to good candidates although their respective libraries would be quite different.

Looking over the various resources online, I was disappointed to see that most lists tended to be very parochial. Nearly all excluded the Arica School; Claudio Naranjo’s extensive work was mentioned almost in passing; and any critical voices were excluded. Materials in the writings of Gurdjieff and his disciples were sketchy - most likely because they are hard to sift out.

As in any conversation, the lively discussion tends to focus on the issues of the moment. However, I tend to want to weigh and explore all points of view as well as honor the lineage of the Teaching, from its first sources to the present moment. And so I tried to assemble a more extensive bibliography. Using Amazon.com, Alibris.com, and Bookfinder.com as resources, I searched for all the titles and subject matter that contained “Enneagram.” I also included those materials from the Gurdjeiff sources which I know contained information of interest to the Enneagram enthusiast plus DVD’s, tapes and other related materials that showed up.

The bibliography is by no means presented as complete; most glaringly, it only contains books in English ignoring the rather extensive Spanish studies and commentaries, plus work that may exist in other languages. It also does not include shorter articles about the Enneagram. And as of today, the list is almost 7 months old. In the Enneagram world, that could mean 7 or 8 new volumes.

I invite anyone who has any additions to the list to please contact me at kireland8@gmail.com, and I will include them.

Please feel free to leave any comments below on the books and dvd’s you find that might be helpful to others…
